Architectural itinerary

The itinerary starts from Villa Firriato, the country residence of Baron Francesco Lombardo Gangitano (1835-1910), a prominent figure and philanthropist of the city of Canicattì.

Following the route on the map, after 5 kilometers, you arrive at the Teatro Sociale di Canicattì, built in 1889-1908 by the architect Ernesto Basile, on the same site where the Carmelite convent once stood, demolished after the suppression of religious orders in 1866.

Just 200 meters away we find Palazzo Bartoccelli, built at the beginning of the 18th century, it belonged to Baron Gaetano Bartoccelli and stands majestically in the historic center of Canicattì with its baroque facade.

Continuing the itinerary on the map for another 800 meters, we find the Palazzo La Lomia. Built between 1750 and 1770 by Baron Don Marco La Lomia Testasecca, it is considered an interesting example of late Baroque Sicilian architecture. It was the main residence of the La Lomia family, one of the most important noble families of Canicattì. Recently restored, the building is in good condition, and is often used for exhibitions, conferences, private initiatives.

Traveling the last 3 kilometers of our itinerary, we arrive at Villa Bordonaro, an ancient Sicilian residence from 1200, with Arab-Norman details that have remained intact and visible in the arches facing the facade of the house. The villa was restored starting from 1600, both by Prince Filangieri and by the Bordonaro family, leaving the original construction intact.
